Solar thermal or solar PV
A solar thermal system heats water directly through collectors and a cylinder, and is efficient at doing exactly that one job. PV generates electricity that can run a heat pump, lights and everything else. Which one suits a building depends on hot water demand, roof space, orientation and how the site uses power during the day.
Pairing solar with a heat pump
A heat pump needs a small amount of electricity to move a large amount of heat. Feed it from a PV array and the running cost of hot water drops again. With a controller set to heat during the sunniest hours, the system works hardest when the energy is cheapest — and that arrangement is designed in, not added afterwards.
Supply, installation and repair
We supply and install solar water heating and PV, integrate it with existing heat pumps and cylinders, and repair systems that were installed by someone else. Where a roof or electrical installation cannot take the load, we say so before quoting.
Solar is a long-term decision tied to a roof you will live under for years. We would rather size it correctly once than add panels to a system that was never balanced.
